About Us
The V.I. Source launched in January 1999 and has, over the last nine years, become an essential facet of Virgin Islands life. With more than 200,000 unique visitors a month, and 3.5 million page requests, the Source – with its three distinct publications: St. Thomas Source, St. Croix Source and St. John Source – has become the trusted publication for all the territory’s news and information.
The Source is the only online newspaper of general circulation in the world – a designation granted by the V.I. Commissioner of Property and Procurement in 2001, just two years after the publication’s launch.
With a reputation for credibility, integrity, community service and determination, the Source is routinely quoted by other media outlets and by government officials. It is also accessed constantly for the information it provides about community events, organizations, activities, entertainment, statistics, government listings and more.
Shaun A. Pennington, president and publisher of the Source, has lived and worked in the Virgin Islands for nearly 30 years. In 2001, Pennington was given the prestigious Person of the Year Award by the St. Thomas Rotary for her work in establishing the Source.
Source reporters boast an accumulated 150 years in the Virgin Islands, thus providing added insight and knowledge to the cutting edge reporting along with vast and varied institutional memory.
The Source was one of only four finalists in the category of general excellence from thousands of applicants – in the Online Journalism Awards, presented by the Online News Association and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2002.
The mission of the Source has been to provide an independent voice to the V.I. community and access to unlimited information -- 24 hours a day, on-line, without cost to the reader.
The Source welcomes press releases, commentary, features of local interest and even news stories from the community.
Please send submissions to visource@gmail.com. We also ask local organizations, groups and government officials and agencies to issue all press releases to the above email address.
